Statement of intent

My music video is a protest song about climate change. The video will fit with genre as climate change will be protested in the video. It will be protested by the performers as they will be passionate about the issue. Mise-en-scene will also be used to show the protest as the start of the song will be performed in bad weather and the end in good weather. This will show variety in lighting. The performers will wear a basic costume (jeans and a hoodie), this is because it represents that climate change will affect everyone and that everyone should care about it. The music video will also be filmed in two different locations which will show the impact of climate change helping the message of the video to be portrayed to the audience. The music video will mainly focus on the performance but will also have lots of shots of the environment throughout the video. This will help to further portray the message. The music video will have a mixture of quick cuts mixed with longer shots. These quick cuts will show the importance of climate change and how much that it matters. The target audience is socially aware 16-25 year olds. The music video will attract the target audience as climate change is something that the target audience cares strongly about. This is evident from recent climate change marches. The message of the music video will be that climate change is important and that if everyone works together something can be done to fix it. The video will fit well with Warner Music’s core values, as warner music aims to be the top provider of digital music and the video will fit with this due to its target audience.

The website will include a home page, which will give an overview of the whole website. An about page which will give information about the artist, which will help to promote him. The website will have a merch page will let the website make money. Furthermore the website for booking tickets for the music tour, this will help the website to be used financially. Social media will be featured on every page on the header, this will promote the social media as it will always be front and centre. The website will attract the audience as it will feature content just for the website and will be interactive and the website will still have climate change as the focus helping to keep readers on the pages.

Synergy is important across the website and music video as it creates a sense of brand identity. The website uses the same colours and font throughout, this will be the same colour and font used at the start of the music video connecting the two. All of the merch will have the same logo. Images taken for the website will be taken at the same location for the filming off the video. The website will have an interview that is not linked to the music video. This is important as it will make the audience want to use the website. All of this will help to create a brand identity for my artist.

prelim reflection

How did you plan your sequence? What processes did you use?
To plan the sequence I broke the music video up into its different shots and then looked at doing each shot seperetaly. I then looked at each shot and looked at the camera angle and the camera movement. I looked at the framing, mise-en scene and the actions in the shot. This made it easier to focus on each shot. I also made a storyboard, to see how each shot came together and to get the timings right.

What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it? What new effects/programmes did you learn?
To film I used my phone. Then to edit the sequence together I used adobe rush. On adobe rush I trimmed the individual clips and put them together. I had to learn different effects so that the different shots had good transitions. Finally, I had to overlay the original music video over the top.

What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
The factors I had to take into account when planning and shooting was that I could be the only person in the shot, so the music video had to feature one person. Furthermore, I could only film inside which made it more difficult, as not every shot could be an exact replication due to lack of room. When editing I did not have use premier, which editing more difficult and meant I had access to less features. Furthermore, I had to be confident with the editing as I was doing it by myself.

How successful was your music video/magazine/tv doc copy? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently? What did others say about your production?
I think the music video copy was fairly successful but their is a few improvements that I could make next time. What worked well was the timing as my music video is in time with the original. Also the opening shot worked really well as it looked similar to the original, however, I was not able to add the Japanese writing. Other shots also went well and the shots all came together well. Furthermore, all the shots had the same movements and angles as the original. To improve I would have to improve the transitions between the shots so that there could be fades instead of just jump cuts. Also in particular the shot were I was laying on the bed could have been improved, next time I would do it in a different locations. Others said the production was good but could do with improvements.

What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing your music video/mag/tv doc, do you think?
I have learnt a lot of new skills from this task which will be really significant when I am making the music video. This task has taught how to plan a music video and individual shots. This planning will be really beneficial when it comes to making the music video. I also learnt how to film lots of different types of shots, that I will use in the music video.

What areas of NEA production are your strengths and weaknesses ? What will you practise over the summer to improve?
I think one of my weaknesses is film different types of shots. I will practice this over the summer by filming various things in a way to improve my filming skills.

Looking at the other productions on their blogs, which do you think were most successful and why?

What have you learnt that you will be able to take with you for your NEA planning and production?
I have learnt lots of new skills that I will be able to use when making my NEA. I have learnt A good way to plan shots methodically. This ensures I am able to film what I want and make sure the timings are right. I have also learnt about setting up props and the background of the shot. I also learnt how to film lots of different types of shots, that I will use in the music video. I learnt how to do different camera angles and camera movements.
